If you have been familiar with statistics application (for monitoring your visitors) used at WordPress.com, you can also install it at your own blog – your blog built using WordPress software. The application is quite simple and easily understood.

The installation is similar to install a plugin. But after activating the plugin, you’ll be asked to enter “WordPress.com API key”. You will have “WordPress.com API key” if you set up a blog at WordPress.com.

Here is how to install the plugin.

  • Login to your website, here you will install the WP-Stats Dashboard plugin. Select [Plugins] and click [Add New]. On [Popular tags] select [statistics] tag. Then a list of plugins appears, find and select WP-Stats Dashboard plugin.
  • Next, install the plugin. You will be asked to enter “WordPress.com API key after the plugin is activated. API key is available at your WordPress.com blog. Login to your blog at WordPress.com (yes you should have a blog here!). Select [Users] click [Your Profile] option. See at the top of the screen. There is your “WordPress.com API key”. Well, the API key is similar to a password that cannot be shared to others.
  • After you know your API key, then back to your website, and enter the API key. Now WP-Stats Dashboard has bee fully activated. You can access your visitor’s data at any time by selecting [Dashboard] menu and click [Blog Stats] option.
  • Each time you click the option, you will be asked to enter username and password (the same username and password of your blog at WordPress.com). And you will be presented by some data of your visitors.
  • Once you login to the WP-Stats you can switch to see your blog’s data at WordPress.com. Simply click dropdown menu in the upper right-hand corner you are be able to switch between your blog’s data.
