Right now, on WordPress version 2.7, you can upload images directly to the Library. You could not do so on older verison, you can only upload an image when you attach it along with an article.

There are two ways to upload images on current version:

1. Using the menu on the left side.

first way

2. Or using the dropdown menu on the upper right-side.

second way

The both ways will take you to the uploading screen. Click [Browse] to select an image file that you will upload, and then click [Upload].

On the screen that appears, you can change the [Title] – You should change this title because it will appear when the mouse pointer passes throught to this image later on your site. You may leave [Caption] and [Description] fields empty, depending on your needs. Click on [Save all changes] to finish it.

After the upload is completed, you will be taken to the management of the images (Media Library). Pass the mouse pointer throught an image so that the [Edit], [Delete], and [View] options, are appear.

select options

When you choose [Edit], you can edit [Title], [Caption], or [Description] of the image. ([Caption] is description of an image that will appear on your site.) Click [Update Media] when you’ve finished editing.
